Sensible Shoes in Sita

A few beautiful ladies from church worked hard to organize our Sensible Shoes program with the local leader in Sita. When I arrived, I found everything set up and ready including hundreds (yes, well over 100) of children waiting. What a blessing these ladies were to Surprised by Hope and me.

Be sure to scroll down and find notes here and there about our time with the children of Sita.

I couldn't even get all the children in one photo. The first four are like a panoramic view (right to left). We began with introductions and then a song led by a 4-year-old girl. The song was taken from Matthew 19:14 where Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me." Many of these children are don't know Jesus as their Savior and not all of them knew the song. What an opportunity for ministering to them through music.

I shared the message from Ephesians 5:1-2, "Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." We asked this children what it means to love others and what it means to be loved by God. In their child-sized way, they answered very well. What a great opportunity to talk about what this love means in light of the Christmas celebration. It takes about eight people to really make the program flow well and I am so blessed at the great big hearts of these volunteers.

Several mothers organized themselves as foot washers and several youth from church guided the children through the stages of finding a fitting pair of sensible shoes, having their feet washed, and then waiting and praying as the other children were ministered to.

Notice baby sleeping comfortably as mama washes and prays.

The following picture is of the children who would were pressed body-to-body waiting for their turn to receive a pair of shoes and would find themselves disappointed as 100 pair were not enough for these little ones.

The bodies pressed in so close the children couldn't reach their chairs.
No matter how many times we ask them to step back, and they do,
They crush together as soon as you turn around.

Walking in the way of love, all the way home.

After foot washing and photos, we prayed for these children and their future lives--30 and 40 years from now. THIS is the real purpose of the Sensible Shoes ministry. We prayed that these children would grow up to know and love the Lord. We prayed that they would find their place of service to Him. We prayed they would find spouses who lovingly help them to become more like Christ. We prayed their work and businesses would be successful, models for others to follow. We prayed that they would be sought after for their wisdom and discernment. We prayed they would be invited into government discussion and that their voices would be influential in dark places. We prayed that one of them would become president and influence national and foreign policy for Christ. THAT is what Sensible Shoes is all about and we believe God will answer our prayers.

There's nothing more challenging than getting 250 people together for
a decent group photo.

Once again, I am blessed by your generosity and trusting Surprised by Hope to minister love to the children of coastal Kenya.
